Pre-Fall 08

Fall '08 Fashion Week is just a few short weeks away, but some designers put out mini collections to whet our appetites. Here are my picks (good and bad) from a few of the collections.

Just Cavalli pairs a lovely floral dress with a buttery leather jacket. While the dress doesn't exactly scream "fall" to me, I think the outfit works.

Diane von Furstenberg's Jazz-inspired collection included this lovely retro jacket and skirt combination.

I'm a sucker for weird shades of green, and find this vintage-inspired dress by 6267 to be stunning. Not sure about those gloves though.

Max Mara's trench-styled jacket is a classic shape that should be a wardrobe staple.

Despite scoffing at leggings on Project Runway, Michael Kors still includes them in his collections.

I love that wide-legged pants are in vogue and those by Calvin Klein are some of the widest. On the other end of the spectrum, he also showed some tight ski pants worn with a mock neck, that, without the interesting coat, is too similar to a typical suburban mom's daily attire. Oh, and swap out those wacky moon boots for sneakers....

Valentino is no longer in the house. Looking at Alessandra Faccinetti's first collection for the label, one can clearly tell. Strong lines, but a bit drab and monochrome and lacking romance.

Donna Karan's "very Copenhagen" collection has a lovely Old Europe feel, particularly when garnished with oversized, Rembrandt-like berets.

This Temperley dress has a simple yet figure-flattering shape and a bold, yet not too too, color combination. Expect to see similar dresses on all of Hollywood's starlets in the coming months.

Karl Lagerfeld always makes me laugh. This Chanel coat looks like a horse blanket hastily thrown on after a roll in the hay with the stable boy.
