Tonight, on You're Wearing That?!?

Siobhan and her daughter Elise’s constant bickering about each other’s wardrobes is putting a bump in their mother/daughter groove! 50-year-old mother Siobhan is caught in a time warp, and her affinity for the neon and spandex of the 1980s has daughter Elise thinking her outdated mom needs some serious fashion help. Meanwhile, 24-year-old daughter Elise’s closet is packed from top to bottom with PLAID, PLAID, and MORE PLAID, and mom thinks this obsession has her looking less like a young professional and more like a picnic table!

From the moment stylist Luciene Salomone meets this opinionated mother/daughter duo, she knows has her work cut out for her! Siobhan and Elise then meet separately with Luciene, who gives each woman fashion advice before sending them out on their own to shop for each other. Will Siobhan transform from time-warp to timeless, AND will Elise see a world beyond plaid?

A Rant about Hair

I can't seem to get a break when it comes to my hair. I have very fine, thin, straight hair with several cowlicks along the hairline. Over the years, I've decided that a long shag, with piecy bangs and swoopy sideburn-like sides, is the most flattering and the easiest to upkeep.

I've had this haircut exactly twice. Once in 1972, when I was 7, and once about 4 years ago. In between, I've requested this style many times, but no hairdresser seems to be able to recreate it. Usually I get something much shorter - against my will - and it reaches the proper proportions only after several months of growth. At that point, the top layers are too long and I need another professional cut. At which time the cycle begins all over again.

This past March, I took these photos of Liza Minnelli to yet another stylist:

I figured if he was going to go against my wishes and cut it short, he could at least see that the bangs were piecy, and the sideburns had a little length. Also, the top hair is at least a couple of inches long.

I came home with the next best thing to a crewcut. The problem with that particular stylist is that he was more interested in running his mouth and discussing show tunes than paying attention to what I wanted.

In June I needed a trim. Instead of going back to him, I found a young stylist at the mall and I browbeat her into trimming only 1/4" off my entire head. It took her a good hour plus, but she did exactly that. Because she did not want me to bite her. I probably should have gone back to her last week, but I didn't. I thought I'd audition yet another stylist, this time at an old lady salon where all of the stylists had been cutting hair in the 70s and HAD to know how to cut a shag.

I told Pat about my past woes. How I wanted a long shag. With piecy bangs and long sideburns. I came home a #*(@&#@ gamine, with a freakin' Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby 'do.

Or like this. But I don't look like Charlize Theron. And I'm far
far too old for a young woman's haircut.
Sometimes I think that when I sit in a stylist's chair, I suddenly become completely unintelligible to the one holding the scissors, as if my spoken English has become Martian, or Klingon. Or is it that as soon as someone gets scissors in hand, he or she becomes selectively deaf, dumb, and blind?

I'm getting tired of the whole thing. I should just shave my head and take to wearing hats.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2011 RTW - Emilio Pucci

Sex-ay is all I have to say about Pucci's Spring 2011 collection. If I had a stick-thin body and a ton of money, I'd be lusting after some of these pieces. I can see Kate Moss in any of them. Or Axl Rose.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2011 RTW - Prada

Prada's looks for Spring 2011 are either plain, or just plain ugly. Next time I go out in public with a Hawaiian shirt or hospital scrubs, I'll just tell everyone they're by Prada.

London Fashion Week Spring 2011 RTW - Basso & Brooke

Just about every season, I post about Basso & Brooke and their fabulous digital prints. This year, I'm posting, but not feeling the fab like before. What do you think?

Tonight, on You're Wearing That?!?

Bolette and her daughter Sarah are sick and tired of each other’s fashion faux pas! Sarah is a 27-year-old nursing student in Woodland Hills, CA, who moonlights as a bartender and feels most comfortable wearing oversized shirts and ripped jeans, but her mother thinks she dresses too much like a tomboy. Meanwhile, 45-year-old Bolette is an ER registered nurse who dresses with one thing in mind… C-O-M-F-O-R-T.

From the instant New York stylist Luciene Salomone meets this outlandish, do-gooder, mother/daughter duo, she has her hands full! With some inspiration and guidance from Luciene, mom Bolette finds new outfits for daughter Sarah that are feminine but still retain Sarah’s personality and edge. And Sarah returns the favor by breaking Bolette out of her terrycloth tailspin With a surprise family member on hand for this dramatic reveal, there are tears all-around as they celebrate this mother and daughter’s transformation from dumpy gals to delicious divas!

Tonight, on You're Wearing That?!?

Alana’s a vivacious 15-year-old high school sophomore in South Pasadena, CA, who thinks she’s got it going on when it comes to style. But her mother Desiree thinks she tries to incorporate too many styles and trends at one time, and wears outfits that are too old for her age and not form-fitting. For her part, Alana thinks mom’s idea of an outfit is “B-O-R-I-N-G!” A 45-year-old working mom of three, Desiree admits to being too busy to worry about fashion, but Alana is sick and tired of her mom’s boring, monochromatic and outdated clothes. With Alana’s “Sweet 16” birthday bash around the corner, Desiree and Alana desperately need help, and Luciene is just the gal to fix these ladies up!

Stylist Luciene Salomone knows she has a tall order in helping Desiree and Alana out of their fashion funk. Each woman must find some great new outfits for the other, including one extra-special outfit for Alana’s "Sweet 16" birthday bash, where they will reveal their new looks. Will Alana have a “Sweet 16?” Tune in to find out @ 10pm | 9c!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011 RTW - Dennis Basso

Dennis Basso is one of my favorite designers, despite the fact that he has to work animal fur into every collection. It's minimal for Spring, but there nonetheless.

I'm seeing more and more of the unusual cut-outs and straps on bodices these days. They add some extra interest to classic designs. I'm not feeling the tit-ruffles though.
