Fall 2008 Fashion Week - Project Runway: Christian Siriano

In many ways, Christian's collection was completely predictable. Let's take an inventory: Jackets? Check. Puffy shoulders? Check. Ruffles? Check. Skinny pants? Check. Lots of black? Check. Fierceness? The kid's got it in spades. Ferocia Coutura made her presence known all over the runway, but particularly in her last few pieces.

He managed to tame that nasty cowlick for the occasion.

The second and third look are too similar to me - puffy sleeves, cinched waist, peplum, skinny pants - and I think it would have been better to stick with one or the other and then create a different look. But that's just me. Apparently there were lots of folks at the show picking him as their favorite.

Compared with the over-the-top-ness of the rest of the collection, this first piece has the austerity of a karate uniform. With puffy sleeves.
I like the ruffled coat very much. I not-so-secretly adore ruffles.

The poor girl must be suffocating in that neck ruffle. With the hat it's very fierce. But also very costume-y. The second look reminds me of something Michael Jackson would have worn in the 80s, when he still had an ounce of fierceness left. And somehow the third look makes me think of the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.

Ok - where did this stuff come from? Big Bird's garage sale? Feathers were seen in several shows this season but not quite to the same effect as here. I think the ruffled shirt with the feathers is a bit much, but the long feathered dress is incredible. Very couture. And the center milk-and-white-chocolate ruffled dress is also stunning. These are pieces that can win it all for everyone's favorite Shih Tzu.
