In honor of Barbie's 50th birthday, 50 designers, including Calvin Klein, Diane Von Furstenberg, Peter Som, Nicole Miller, and Tory Burch, put together 50 looks. What should have been fun and cute instead was an exercise in ugly.
The show started out great, with Rachel Roy's take on the iconic striped swimsuit. Nicole Miller's checkerboard minidress and coat were also quite adorable. But the rest? Awful.
Pink, frothy, and tacky, even silly 80s Barbie wouldn't have worn most of these tacky frocks.
Scary futuristic Barbie wears plastic capes, lampshade shirts, and freaky leotards. And she sometimes pretends to be a drag queen in Bob Mackie.
Sorry, famous big-name designers. Nothing beats original Barbie clothing from the 1960s. That stuff was attractive and well-made - better than most human clothing.
