Fall 2008 Couture - Valentino

F0r the most part, Valentino doesn't look like Valentino anymore with Alessandra Facchinetti in the driver's seat. Oh, there are some pretty chiffon dresses, and a couple of red things, but it's not the same.

Especially when you try something bizarre like these horribly unflattering skirts. Can you even sit in one of those without showing your knickers to the world (if, that is, you wear them)? And...is that a lab coat?

The first dress looks like a home-made Barbie outfit from the 60s that I stumbled upon at a flea market. Barbie wouldn't be seen dead in it. The suit next to it appears to be coated in dried bugs, but it's really badly thought-out beadwork. And the capes...ugly and awkward, particularly the light-colored one. Makes me think of that early pioneer of fashion...the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The first gown is a bit odd - something outer space-nightgown to it, but it's interesting. And the rest of the dresses are...wait for it...lovely. Thankfully Facchinetti hasn't turned a blind eye to the past.
