Christian Louboutin

So I'll never wear Christian Louboutin shoes unless I win a multi-million-dollar lottery or some rich fool gives me a pair. But when I got an e-mail from Neiman Marcus about new Louboutin pre-fall shoes, I had to at least look.

Look at these gorgeous satin passementerie pumps! I remember when passementerie was the big thing some years back - it was on collars, coats, jackets, sleeves, everywhere. I always loved it, but it was a bit "fancy" for my art school lifestyle. Now I don't see it as much, or when I do see it, I can't afford it. These lovely shoes are $1,125.00. Yeah.

These suede passementerie pumps are less-expensive, but still on the crazy side: $895.00. I'm sure some celeb or woman who loves credit card debt will
wear them for me.

Tattoo You

Let's just say I'm a big non-fan of tattoos. Fine if you have 'em, it's your body, but don't show it to me and expect me to congratulate you on your good taste. Randomly floating around the Internets, I found a site that had photos of tattoos featured on a tattoo blog. Two struck me as particularly stupid/lame/a big mistake once these dudes are out of their 20s.

Extremely klassy, don't you think? How about a Brazilian? Betcha his girlfriend is sooo proud.

You did this just to get out of doing that stupid family portrait at Christmastime, right?

2008 CFDA Awards

The Council of Fashion Designers of America had their invitation-only bash last night. My invite must have gotten lost in the mail, hmmm?
New York, NY, June 3, 2008 – Last night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) paid tribute to the winners and honorees of the 2008 CFDA Fashion Awards in the Celeste Bartos Forum of The New York Public Library followed by dinner at the Bryant Park Grill. Top honors went to Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein for Womenswear Designer of the Year. Tom Ford won Menswear Designer of the Year and Tory Burch took home Accessory Designer of the Year.

The Swarovski Award for Womenswear was given to Kate & Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte while the Swarovski Award for Menswear was presented to Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders. The Swarovski Award for Accessory Design went to Phillip Crangi. The Awards were generously underwritten by Swarovski. Recipients in each category will receive generous financial support from the company as well as exposure to the company’s vast and innovative CRYSTALLIZED™ Swarovski Elements.

The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Carolina Herrera.

Fabulous and not-so-fabulous fashionistas were on hand to celebrate.

Victoria Beckham posed her little heart out for this event. Poor dear must be exhausted! It looks to me that she might have a French pedicure - doesn't she know that's been classified as "tacky?" Poor Maggie Gyllenhaal looks like she would prefer to be anywhere but in that very spot right now.

Andre Leon Talley and Naomi Campbell arrived on Talley's flying carpet, judging by his turban and satin slippers and her harem-esque pants. I have no explanation for that hideous pink leather overcoat he's sporting though.

Newsflash! Donna Karan is only half a hot mess! (You pick the half.)

Elie Tahari 2009 Resortwear

Elie Tahari revealed a collection of close-fitting print separates for his 2009 Resortwear collection. I'm not all that crazy about the mix of similar-looking prints, but the garment shapes are classic and classy.

I do like the first suit, but combined with the prints, it borders on grandma to me. The shorts suit is fab though. The third one looks a bit like she's wearing children's pajamas.

Love the cut of the pants, but not the prints. The suit is cute, as is the dress, but it looks like it might wrinkle easily.

Love all three of these particularly the third look.

And these are my favorites of all. The first look is so so chic, and I adore the bright purple. The jacket and jeans are perfect. And the breezy dress would be fantastic for both a casual summer night and a fancier evening occasion.
