Fall Fragrances

There's a nip in the air as October finally brings us some fall-like weather. Time to retire the warm-weather scents, the gardenias, the light florals, and bring out the warm and cozy cold-weather fragrances, the spices, the vanillas. I'm already gravitating to favorites like L'Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant, and Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, and Estee Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang. Others that will get exercise in the cooler months are Chanel Coco, Must de Cartier, and the newly-purchased Chanel Allure Sensuelle.

Do you switch out your scent seasonally, or do you tend to wear the same things all year long? Rotating them is the only way I can remember what I have in my collection, and even then some fragrances get lost in the shuffle.

Guess I have too many, eh? :)

Man Shops Globe, Tonight on Sundance

“Man Shops Globe” premieres tonight at 10 PM on Sundance Channel and will take viewers around the world to explore and search for the most unusual and unique artistic objects, furniture and textiles each culture has to offer.

The eight-part original series features Keith Johnson -- the buyer-at-large for upscale retailer Anthropologie -- and follows him from flea markets in Paris to remote villages in India and obscure art studios in Turkey in his quest for the most unique and unusual decorative objects from around the world.

Spring 2010 RTW - Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld's collection for his eponymous line was all about the shorts. Cute, but impractical - can't get away with shorts in the workplace, unless one is a ho. So for me, it's all about the jackets - I love jackets, and there were some fun ones in this collection.

At first glance, the belt looked like it had flossers strapped to it....

These things.... Might work better with this dentist's coat. Or is it a romper?

Spring 2010 RTW - Viktor & Rolf

Why is it that Project Runway designers are always admonished not to produce looks that are too theatrical or "costumey," when in the real world we see it on a fairly regular basis? For example, Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2010 collection, which should be called "Tulle Academy." It's all very interesting and sculptural, but I can't see anyone making the investment in any of these pieces, nor wearing them, apart from perhaps the pink gown towards the end.
