Why is it that Project Runway designers are always admonished not to produce looks that are too theatrical or "costumey," when in the real world we see it on a fairly regular basis? For example, Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2010 collection, which should be called "Tulle Academy." It's all very interesting and sculptural, but I can't see anyone making the investment in any of these pieces, nor wearing them, apart from perhaps the pink gown towards the end.
Dutchmen Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren was more into statuary than fashion when they designed this collection of pleats and drapes in mostly stiff fabrics. I understand why they chose to whiten the models' faces, but it really didn't work.
Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection.
