Joan and Melissa Rivers' new show, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? premieres tonight at 9/8c on WE tv. Looks like a hoot!

So Joan makes the life-altering decision to move to California to be closer to Melissa and her grandson, Cooper. Meanwhile, in Malibu, California, Melissa has a great kid, and a loving and solid relationship with her live-in boyfriend, Jason (that Joan doesn't know about!) Will Joan and Melissa make it work? Tune in to see the drama unfold!

Spring 2011 Couture - Christian Dior

John Galliano drew inspiration from Rene Gruau's classic fashion drawings of the 1950s. While all are stunning, it's perhaps a bit too reverential. Gorgeous to look at, however, if not to wear.

Bond No. 9 24/7 New York Body Silk

I got a little package in the mail the other day containing the cutest little sample jar from Bond No. 9, containing a precious amount of their new 24/7 New York Body Silk. I immediately unscrewed the lid and took a sniff, happily discovering it was fragranced with West Side, one of my very favorite Bond scents. A little dab revealed that it was thick - but not too thick - and lusciously textured so that it melted into my skin, leaving it silky but not greasy. And so fragrant!

The press release that came with the sample says that the cream is so emollient, it will "instantly entice perfumed smoothness everywhere, including those problem areas, elbows, shoulders knees - body parts you'd formerly given up on." Well, I haven't exactly given up (Aveeno Baby does a fantastic job of keeping alligator skin away, even on adults), but I'm always happy to add new fragranced creams to my collection.

Bond no. 9′s 24/7 Body Silk is a surprisingly well-priced $105 for 200 ml. In addition to West Side, the cream also comes in ten other popular Bond scents:

Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue
Andy Warhol Union Square
Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York
Chinatown
Bryant Park
Nuits de Noho
Saks Fifth Avenue for Her
The Scent of Peace
Chelsea Flowers
Eau de New York

2011 Golden Globes, Part Two

More looks from the red carpet at the Golden Globes....

Who would think that a dress that looked like it was made from filthy rags could be so pretty? Even if Julie Bowen's Tadashi Shoji gown still looks like filthy rags. Hate the color.

Melissa Leo looks smashing in her Marc Bouwer gown, except the total lack of color or shine on her lips makes her appear a bit cadaverous.

This Romona Keveza gown is one of the best things I've ever seen on Christina Hendricks. While the color is a bit loud, it shows off her curves without being either matronly or vulgar.

I think Kyra Sedgwick (in Emilio Pucci) looks better and better as she ages. Love this color on her, and the non-matchy earrings.

Angelina Jolie is not wearing black! News at 11! (She is wearing Atelier Versace.)

Anne Hathaway looks stunning in Armani Privé. If you're going to wear nude-ish neutrals, pick it's wise to pick one that has a bit of depth to it, as this one does.

Jayma Mays is as thin as a rail, but somehow she looks completely hot in this Alberta Ferretti. Gorgeous!

2011 Golden Globes, Part One

Never quite as much fun as the Oscars, the Golden Globes are still a great place for fashion-watching. This year, there seemed to be less black and white than in recent years, but we still have that irritating trend for nude-colored garments that for the most part do not work with the wearers' skin tones. Another trend was matronly, as seen in the first two looks...

Christina Aguilera and Scarlett Johansson both seem to be channeling more mature women, in Aguilera's case, an elderly Ginger Rogers (must be the hair) as the owner of a bordello. Scarlett's hair is making me think of Elsa Lanchester...as the Bride of Frankenstein.

Sandra Bullock just looks sad. The "Sonny & Cher" hair (Cher's long straight locks with Sonny's bangs) just isn't working for her, neither is the blandly-colored Jenny Packham gown.

Heidi Klum doesn't even look like Heidi Klum in this photo - where's the short, tight, and shiny? I'm really torn about this look. While it works for her, it doesn't say "awards show" to me.

Ah, Gabourey Sidibe. This Marc Bouwer dress is interesting, but it screams "muu muu" on a larger body.

Helena Bonham Carter (in Vivienne Westwood) wouldn't be Helena Bonham Carter if she didn't look a hot mess.

Julianne Moore is a wrinkled mess in her hot pink Lanvin. She's been wearing Lanvin recently...guess she thinks it makes her edgy, but really, it makes her "not work."

Tilda Swinton always marches to the beat of a different drum, and this Jil Sander look is pretty standard fare for her. But if I wore a men's shirt and wrapped a pale yellow bedsheet around my waist, people would call  me crazy. Just sayin'.

Natalie Portman is a pretty girl, and at this point in her career she obviously has enough money to afford a stylist. This Viktor & Rolf gown is such a nothing - well, it is a bit tacky - and the jewelry is such an afterthought. She should be able to do better.

The Pink Room Darkly Audacious

A few years back, I met The Pink Room owner Sarah Barton-King at Sniffapalooza, where she passed around a sample of her upcoming third scent, and I fell in love.

Every few months I'd check the Web site to see if that latest fragrance was available and every few months I'd be disappointed. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I received a sample of Darkly Audacious in the mail. Yay! While my memory of that initial sniff at the Country Café is a bit fuzzy now, I can still say that I love Sarah Barton-King's third scent.

Personally, I think it's neither dark nor audacious. It's a powdery woodsy scent with gorgeously subtle jasmine on a sweet vanilla backdrop. It's mostly warm and cozy, but on my skin there's an odd note that pops up in the middle, something wet and metallic. But it's just odd and not off-putting in the least.  But that's me, and my skin - your mileage may vary.

Darkly Audacious is available at MiN NY.

Notes: lemon, bergamot, rosewood, jasmine, rose, cashmere wood, plum, patchouli, incense, amber, tonka bean, vanilla

The Genuine Ken

On January 18th "Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend” will premiere on Hulu.

Eight Ken-testants will compete in a series of elimination challenges to determine if they, like Ken (Barbie’s ex!), have the qualities to be the “ultimate boyfriend for every occasion. Whether it’s a surfing competition, a cooking challenge or proving they have the best style, the guys will showcase their Ken-like qualities to host Whitney Port and other celebrity guest judges.

The winner of Genuine Ken will receive a modeling contract with Mattel, and a one-of-a-kind doll made in his likeness. I think that's actually a pretty cool prize, but then I was a Barbie collector for decades.

No word yet on if the contestants have nothing but a small plastic hump in their pants. Now that would be genuine!

Joan Collins...

...wearing a bath scrubbie. (Apparently this is some person named Autumn Reeser, who is presumably much younger than Joan Collins. But still - that was my one and only thought when I saw the combo of hair and outfit.)

What Does Lithuania Smell Like?

Apparently Lithuania smells like sandalwood, cedar, musk, wood fires that can be associated with pagan rituals, moss, and wildflowers.

Hmm...that sounds like it would smell pretty good!

The fragrance, Lithuania, has been created by French firm Galimard, and will be coming to a Lithuanian embassy near you. No word as to when or if it will ever hit regular retail outlets.

Read about it here.
