No, wait...that's Tilda Swinton. She's wearing Haider Ackermann.

2011 Golden Globes, Part Two
More looks from the red carpet at the Golden Globes....
Who would think that a dress that looked like it was made from filthy rags could be so pretty? Even if Julie Bowen's Tadashi Shoji gown still looks like filthy rags. Hate the color.
Melissa Leo looks smashing in her Marc Bouwer gown, except the total lack of color or shine on her lips makes her appear a bit cadaverous.
This Romona Keveza gown is one of the best things I've ever seen on Christina Hendricks. While the color is a bit loud, it shows off her curves without being either matronly or vulgar.
I think Kyra Sedgwick (in Emilio Pucci) looks better and better as she ages. Love this color on her, and the non-matchy earrings.
Angelina Jolie is not wearing black! News at 11! (She is wearing Atelier Versace.)
Anne Hathaway looks stunning in Armani Privé. If you're going to wear nude-ish neutrals, pick it's wise to pick one that has a bit of depth to it, as this one does.
Jayma Mays is as thin as a rail, but somehow she looks completely hot in this Alberta Ferretti. Gorgeous!

2011 Golden Globes, Part One
Never quite as much fun as the Oscars, the Golden Globes are still a great place for fashion-watching. This year, there seemed to be less black and white than in recent years, but we still have that irritating trend for nude-colored garments that for the most part do not work with the wearers' skin tones. Another trend was matronly, as seen in the first two looks...
Christina Aguilera and Scarlett Johansson both seem to be channeling more mature women, in Aguilera's case, an elderly Ginger Rogers (must be the hair) as the owner of a bordello. Scarlett's hair is making me think of Elsa Lanchester...as the Bride of Frankenstein.
Sandra Bullock just looks sad. The "Sonny & Cher" hair (Cher's long straight locks with Sonny's bangs) just isn't working for her, neither is the blandly-colored Jenny Packham gown.
Heidi Klum doesn't even look like Heidi Klum in this photo - where's the short, tight, and shiny? I'm really torn about this look. While it works for her, it doesn't say "awards show" to me.
Ah, Gabourey Sidibe. This Marc Bouwer dress is interesting, but it screams "muu muu" on a larger body.
Helena Bonham Carter (in Vivienne Westwood) wouldn't be Helena Bonham Carter if she didn't look a hot mess.
Julianne Moore is a wrinkled mess in her hot pink Lanvin. She's been wearing Lanvin recently...guess she thinks it makes her edgy, but really, it makes her "not work."
Tilda Swinton always marches to the beat of a different drum, and this Jil Sander look is pretty standard fare for her. But if I wore a men's shirt and wrapped a pale yellow bedsheet around my waist, people would call me crazy. Just sayin'.
Natalie Portman is a pretty girl, and at this point in her career she obviously has enough money to afford a stylist. This Viktor & Rolf gown is such a nothing - well, it is a bit tacky - and the jewelry is such an afterthought. She should be able to do better.

The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Part 2
Not everyone on the red carpet looked good, of course. There weren't too many horrible missteps, but some looks were worth mentioning.
Lea Michelle (in Oscar de la Renta) obviously thinks she's Penelope Cruz at the Oscars. Too much dress for such a tiny person.
Sofia Vergara wore Carolina Herrera. While the colors are interesting, the dress is otherwise as boring as a pile of rumpled bedsheets, as is her hair and makeup.
Patricia Arquette is not the type to ever make a best-dressed list. This monstrosity is just an affirmation.
While I can appreciate the antique styling (Regency, perhaps) of Julianne Moore's Balenciaga gown, it might have worked better in a fabric other than polyester doubleknit.
Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano. Maybe she thought the ruffle would take the attention off her porn-star rack? Didn't work. And the color is too pale for her porcelain skin. (The original version of this dress looked like this, which would have looked smashing on Ms Hendricks.)
Ah...Jessica Lange is finally old. At least that's what this matronly frock is saying.

The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Part 1
The Golden Globes is always a good place to check out the latest in evening wear (the words "evening wear" always make me think of the old Wendy's commercial). While celebs dress to the nines (maybe even the tens) for the Oscars, GG dress tends to be a bit more subdued, maybe at a level of seven or eight.
As usual, black was a hot color, and those darn unflattering nudes were all over the place as well. But a small selection of smart women stood out from the crowd in brights and purples.
Mellody Hobson (with George Lucas) bucked all trends and wore this fabulous frock that looks inspired by Egyptian tomb paintings.
Jane Lynch didn't wear her customary Sue Sylvester sweats, but instead looked gorgeous in this Ali Rahimi gown.
Ginnifer Goodwin wore a bright blue Vionnet cocktail dress that may have seemed a little casual amongst the throng of gowns, but she didn't have to drag her hem in the wet, and she looked terrific.
Sandra Bullock wore an eye-popping purple Bottega Veneta. What a stunning color! Although the dress doesn't particularly excite me, it works for her.
Fergie in Elie Saab. The dress is lovely, a bit 70s-retro, but I wish she would do something with her hair.
Diane Kruger's fashion sense doesn't always work for me, but she looks terrific in this Christian Lacroix couture gown. Ok, maybe I'm not seeing her at all...I just love the gown.
Lauren Graham also wore shocking pink. Can't lose her in a crowd.
I loved Felicity Huffman's gown, even if it was nude. The trim on the straps and bodice was enough to make a distinct separation between where her body ended and the dress started.
Kristen Bell is a tiny girl, and her Jasmine di Milo cocktail dress was the perfect, non-overwhelming, look for her.
I have mixed emotions about Dianna Agron's Reem Acra gown. While she's lovely and it's beautiful, I'm not sure if dove gray is the right (non) color for her.
Chloe Sevigny is always hailed as some sort of fashion icon for some strange reason. Maybe people are afraid to tell her she usually looks like a clown? But she did something right with this floaty, ruffly Valentino.
Heidi Samuel looks positively modest in her Roberto Cavalli gown, which is not short, sparkly, and cheap-looking. She could have done a lot better with the hair though.
And finally, we have Tina Fey in Zac Posen. I love it. I hate it. I love it. I hate it. What do you think?

Golden Globe Awards
It must be awards season, huh?
Doesn't seem that anyone tried particularly hard to look good this year. Not that it's effortless for anyone....
Pale and wan seemed to be in. Angelina Jolie looked tubercular in her drab gown. Drew Barrymore looked pretty, but the color of that gown does nothing for her. It's the color of white socks washed with new blue jeans. Elizabeth Banks, however, works the pale color and looks rather terrific.
Beyonce and Miley Cyrus also do non-colors. Both also do an unflatterng boob-mash. You know, I don't want to know that a 16-year-old has breasts.
A good thing Anne Hathaway wore a color, otherwise she might be taken for a ghost. Maggie Gyllenhaal looked sad in her animal print. And please - can someone get Eva Longoria-Parker a new makeup artist? Her eyes look like little black dots, and she has no mouth at all. It's a look that makes her appear as hard and mean as she actually is in person.
Amy Adams makes an elegant black gown look like an old rag she threw on, and Cameron Diaz makes an old rag she threw on look like...an old rag she threw on. I like the color on her, but not so much the bi-color hair.
Christina Applegate sure doesn't look like a cancer patient in her glorious yellow gown, and her jewelry is amazing. Stunning.
