The 2010 Met Ball

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Ball is always a fun event for those of us who like to see what the celebrities are wearing. Normally there are at least a few freaks and geeks in attendance, like Madonna and Mary Kate Olsen last year.

This year, there was a preponderance of "meh" - ladies looked uniformly pretty, many wore pale colors - blush, apricot, white.

Anne Hathaway (Valentino) and Taylor Swift (in Ralph Lauren Collection) looked - lovely and boring.

Sarah Jessica Parker (in Halston Heritage) and Kate Hudson (in Stella McCartney) looked - lovely and boring.

Marion Cotillard (in Christian Dior) and Jennifer Lopez (in Zuhair Murad) looked - lovely and boring, although JLo's skirt had some snazz.

Diane Kruger and Diane Lane (in Michael Kors) both went for more plain looks, although Kruger's Calvin Klein is stunning in its simplicity.

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore what looked to be denim (Louis Vuitton). Eva Mendes wore her grandmother's sofa slipcover (Dolce & Gabbana).

Christina Hendricks looks to be wearing Donald Trump's toupee on the shoulder of her L'Wren Scott gown. And I think Rosario Dawson slaughtered Big Bird's sister for the occasion (Giambattista Valli).

Mary J. Blige looks too sweet in her frou-frou J. Mendel apricot gown. And I believe that hair style is what we used to call a "shit-pot haircut" when I was a kid. I'm torn on Renee Zellweger's Carolina Herrera gown, but I love her short hair.

Someone didn't tell Tina Fey or Carey Mulligan that this was a rather formal event. A jumpsuit? (even if it is YSL) My grandmother's apron? (Miu Miu) Come on!
