Help jcpenney Help Afterschool Programs

Pennies are useless, right? Maybe not! jcpenney is has launched the official “pennies from heaven hub” where customers are able to collect virtual pennies as part of a fun, interactive experience on jcp.com/pennies. On the hub, users can collectively donate virtual pennies through various digital triggers. Once users collectively generate 100 million virtual pennies, jcpenney will donate $1 million to the afterschool cause. Elements of the pennies from heaven online challenge include:
  • sending a “lucky penny” to friends on Facebook using a customized application
  • watching the pennies from heaven commercial video
  • downloading the pennies from heaven ringtone
  • liking jcpenney on Facebook or following jcpenney on Twitter and
  • checking into a jcpenney store on Foursquare
  • and more….
Sign up for the challenge here.
Beginning July 31st, in-store customers can donate their real change by rounding up their purchases and donating the difference to afterschool programs. Additionally, Olsenboye designers Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen are lending their support to the initiative by releasing this cute limited edition coin purse, naturally available exclusively at jcpenney.

100% of the $9.99 price will be donated to the pennies from heaven campaign.

See? Pennies aren't completely useless after all!

Brows by Anastasia Beverly Hills

I have fairly sparse brows, so this looks like something I might need:

Anastasia has long been the definitive eye and brow expert for icons such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah as well as hip up-and-comers like Diana Agron, Selena Gomez and Kristen Cavalari and has recently expanded into colors that match their superior standards for skincare based cosmetics.

Anastasia of Beverly Hills products have recently been added to all Sephora stores in the United States. For more info, check out their Web site at http://anastasia.net.

Project Runway Season 9

We've just barely gotten over the outrage that Mondo Guerro did not win Season 8 (or rather, that Gretchen Jones DID win) when along comes Season 9, this time with 20 designers.

I feel sick.

Season 9 premieres Thursday, July 28th at 9/8C, on Lifetime.

Fall 2011 Couture - Valentino

Oh, I do so love Valentino and wish I had an occasion to wear something from the design firm! Oh, and the body for it. Not to mention the finances. The Fall 2011 Couture collection is simple, and vaguely old-fashioned (I think the dress/coat in the third image is reminiscent of Barbie doll clothes from the 60s), yet somehow very modern. Can't you see Gwyneth Paltrow in gowns 5 and 6, which are positively Calvin Klein-ian in their simplicity?

Fall 2011 Couture - Christian Dior

While there are some pretty fab pieces in this collection, I think it's fairly obvious that John Galliano was not the designer. Instead, Bill Gaytten attempted to put his own stamp on Dior, the result of which is not quite...Dior. I dunno - there's just something...cheap...about it.

McQueen at the Met

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to see the Alexander McQueen show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and I have to say it was completely AMAZING. It was well worth the nearly 45-minute wait (with a full bladder). It was not only thrilling to get to see the designer's work up close, but also the curation. The genius of McQueen was given an elaborate set, each room with a different theme to match the garments and objects within, forming a rather magnificent whole.

I think my favorite room was the one themed "Romantic Gothic and Cabinet of Curiosities."

Just a few of the curiosities on display in the "cabinet."

For more information on the exhibit, which runs until August 6th, 2011, read the Met blog.

Another Royal Wedding

That's right, Prince Albert of Monaco - make sure camera is on you when you're kissing your new bride, Charlene.

I love Charlene Wittstock's gown - it's very plain and elegant, and more what I expected the new British royal princess to wear. My only criticism is that it doesn't seem to fit very well in the bodice.

Work It, Baby!

While I usually think it's pathetic when old folks continue dying their hair well into old age, somehow I can't imagine Joan Collins being gray. She was born in 1933, which makes her 78, and she still looks pretty damn fabulous!

If only all of us could age so well.

Scent of the Day - Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier

I am all about the orange blossom this summer, and while Fleurs de Citronnier is primarily lemon blossom, this scent has a similar feel to my favorite OB scents. Perhaps a bit more strident than some of the other citrussy scents in my collection, FdC is undeniably gorgeous, deeply floral without being suffocating, with a subtle honeyed musk in the background that rounds out the fragrance.

Notes: Lemon blossom, neroli, tuberose, musk
